Burns

The most important action to take is to immediately cool the skin by plunging the affected body part into ice-cold water and leaving it there for at least five minutes.

• Treating burns is one of the few occasions when an essential oil — in this instance, lavender — is applied neat to the skin. Lavender reduces the pain, promotes rapid healing and can prevent blisters appearing. Gently dry the skin after cooling it in water, cover the burn with lavender and repeat if necessary after half an hour.
